Upper Class Characters
If your character is Upper Class then he or she should select one Profession and optionally one Secondary Trade Skill
Though children from upper class families were encouraged to follow the traditional profession of their family they didn't always succede. In this event they were usually forced into a skill or trade of a lower class (much to the disappointment of the family.) Soldiering except as a senior officer, or if the family has a history of Generals and Admirals, was generally looked down on by the upper class. Naval careers were more respectable but the Merchant Marine was not as noteworthy as the Navy. The Clergy was a respectable fall back career for many failed Doctors and Lawyers. Clerking or shop keeping was even worse then the Army. And you were better off dead then pursuing a manual trade or being a common criminal! Many failed upper class would head for the Colonies for a second chance, looking for opportunities that their better education might provide.
General Skills are skills that an individual is likely to have learned in their lifetime that are not related to their trade or profession. The Weapon Skills listed with the general skills are for those characters whose careers have not otherwise given them weapon skills. All Upper Class may select two (2) weapon skills from the list.
